Estoy aquí!

Holaaaaaaa! I arrived yesterday, but was too exhausted to post anything. Therefore, I proudly present to you a picture vomit.

Friday

After repacking and watching Gossip Girl, I took the subway to the city center, where we went to have dinner. I never eat out, so I'm excited even about McDonald's... We tried to go to TGI Friday's, but we should have waited for an hour to get a table, so we decided to go to Pizza Hut instead. Mmm, so good! As starters we had garlic bread with mozzarella, and chicken wings, and as a main course I took some chicken alfredo pasta. I barely had room for dessert, but as I saw banana split on the menu, I just had to take it. It was so delicious!

Stockholm subway, surprisingly empty
We went to Pizza Hut, but I took some pasta. Good choice.

Saturday

On Saturday I repacked once again, because I was afraid my luggage was too heavy. Then we went to the city center to buy me a ticket for the airport bus, and had dinner at Burger King. Om nom nom. We took the subway back to Samuel's place, and I finished knitting his wool socks. I also took a 3-hour nap, because I had to take the subway at 3am to Cityterminalen and the airport bus.

Cafe Å Lait :D :D
Sergels Torg, Stockholm
On the last day we went to Burger King. They just opened one in Finland,
in Helsinki, and ain't nobody got time or money to travel there.

Sunday

I took the subway at 3am, and it was surprisingly empty at first. Then it started to fill up with party people. Samuel helped me to Cityterminalen, and I took the airport bus at 4am. I was really sad, I hate goodbyes. Everything went smoothly at the airport, even the baggage drop was automated. My luggage was far from overweight, which means that I could have taken some of that stuff with me that I left at Samuel's. Oh well. Before boarding I had some sandwiches I had prepared for myself, and played Cards Against Humanity with livestream people.

I was kinda suprised that there was an empty seat next to me in the plane, otherwise it was packed. There was some Spanish guy on the window seat, so the empty space was between us. I slept through the whole flight, I wasn't planning on it but it was all good. Once I arrived in Barcelona, I found the apartment easily and... I don't know. Everything went so smoothly! I have 4 female flatmates: one from Barcelona, one from Mallorca, one from China, and one from San Francisco, if I remember correctly. They're all very nice.

All the big supermarkets and shops are closed on Sundays, so I walked around a bit to see if I could find a small shop or something. I found one, and apparently the cashier and a customer had been talking about me, because suddenly, when I was paying, the cashier asked if I understood, and I just said yes, and the customer apologized... Then they asked where I was from, and started talking about the high quality of life and safety in Finland. They even complimented my Spanish. Good times.

In the evening I met with a local Esperantist, Gerard, who also happens to be a translator. We went to this small bar and had this drink with beer and lemonade. It was really good. We also had some pinchos, and I listened to Gerard talk in Catalan with some older men, who were there to watch a football soccer match between Barcelona and Sevilla. What an eventful day!

3am at Samuel's subway station, Västertorp.

Monday

Today I've been a busy bee. I slept for 9 hours without waking up, and headed to the office. I filled out some forms, and went to another office to get a temporary social security number. There was a misunderstanding and I was sent to yet another office, only to see that the office wasn't there anymore. And it was quite far away. At that point I was so tired and hungry that I cried, but then I stopped for a piece of warm bread with ham and cheese, and I started to feel better. I walked back to the second office, and they gave me a number for waiting line, and when I was called, the whole booth who called me didn't even exist... so someone else checked my papers and I finally got the number. Then I went to few banks, and managed to do all this in Spanish.

After having been on foot for 4 hours, I took the subway for the first time, and found a nice grocery shop near my house. Then I came home, ate, and read some Cosmopolitan en español (got an Oriflame powder with it, sweeeet) and fell asleep for 3 hours. Now I'm freezing in my room, and there's a stormy wind outside. I might go back to bed soon, because tomorrow I have to visit some offices again.

on my way to the office

Palm trees!

After all the walking today, I decided to treat myself: Cosmo for 3,5€
and a nice chicken caesar salad for 2,5€ :)
the metro ticket
something for the evening... and I love Kinder Buenos!

My feet hurt so fricking much... Oh, also, damn those Spaniards in suits. So much eye candy. :P

Jag är här!

Greetings from Stockholm. I made it, barely. I almost missed the boat yesterday... and because of that I didn't even get to hug my mom goodbye. They literally closed the door behind me and left. My mom helped me with my stuff, and as I turned to hug my mom, the glass doors were already closed and she was running away from the walking bridge. I collapsed and cried next to my stuff, and some passenger came over to ask if everything was okay. The man who had closed the doors tried to calm me down, and he helped me into my cabin. I was a mess.

I hate packing
ice ice baby - the Baltic Sea
Viking Amorella. It ran aground the last time I was on it, in December.

After that I went outside and called my mom, and then I went into my cabin. I watched Eurovision Song Contest from 2012 with my laptop and fell asleep. I slept for 6 hours. Then I had some sandwiches my mom had made for me, and bought a new Fazer chocolate from the duty free shop.

in the cabin. that's my new suitcase!
all the eurovision times
exhausted
the new chocolate flavor, so gooooood!
Samuel was waiting for me at the harbor, and we took a bus and a metro to his place. It was the first time I was on a bus in Stockholm, so exciting! I slept really well, probably because I was exhausted both physically and mentally. Now it's noon, he's at work, and I'm just shuffling about, chatting on livestream, thinking about repacking my stuff, and watching Gossip Girl. I've never watched this show, but it's surprisingly interesting.

Man, I love Stockholm. It's so easy (and cheap) to visit from Finland, it's cheaper to come here than to go to Helsinki from Turku. I'm gonna go downtown later today and take some photos. :)

Last night in Finland

9:46pm
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU. I spent all morning and afternoon running around in different offices, telling them that I wouldn't be a full-time business owner anymore. My mom found a pretty suitcase on sale, and I happened to have enough money for that. It was now 39€ instead of 109€, and it has a 2-year warranty.

I just carried a big, heavy box into the storage room downstairs. It's full of books, and I almost died because of its weight... well, I've been a slacker myself, should start working out. The show Vikings is on in 10 minutes, I think I'm gonna take some crap with me in front of the TV and sort it out while dreaming about Athelstan.

11:14pm
My little brother Kauri came to say goodbye. I will miss them all soooo much. :(

Also, Athelstan. Mm mm mm. I just boiled some eggs. So much crap, so little space. Muiluttaa muiluttaa.

midnight
I hit my foot pretty badly. Could I just go to bed and wake up again into this day or something?

0:41am
Taking all my files from this PC into my external hard drive. Gives me an excuse not to pack.

1:19am
Some people showed up on RaidCall. "you can work that booty now and later be all aw yiss"

2:00am
I keep finding interesting things, like sheets of music in Russian.

2:31am
The bedroom is now empty of my stuff. I'm hungry.

3:14am
Made some food and cleaned the kitchen. It's almost done. I'm feeling optimistic. I'm gonna eat and watch the first episode of Gossip Girl. My foot hurts like hell.

4:22am
I've taken a ton of trash out. I guess that's a good thing... right? My foot is a bit swollen.

4:59am
I opened a can of Moomin soda. Where the hell am I gonna put all this crap? 3 hours to go. I'm so fricking tired.

6:08am
I'm exhausted and my foot hurts. Throwing even more stuff away.

7:10am
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. I'm gonna turn off the computer. I shall succeed.

hey gypsy

Argh. I've been going through my stuff today, and... it's a bit chaotic. I have moved a lot in my life, last time was in May. What the heck, let's count the places:

  • Finland: 9 places in Turku, 7 in Joutseno, 3 in Rauma, 1 in Harjavalta, and 1 in Rauha = 21
  • Iceland: 6 places in Reykjavík, 1 in Eyrarbakki = 7
  • Italy: 1 place in Perugia, 1 in Cagliari = 2
  • USA: 1 place in Harrisonburg, VA (4 times) = 1
Looks like I've lived in 31 different places this far, and sometimes I've moved back and forth, between old places... and there was a period of ~10 years when we didn't move, so it's like 2 new places a year on average. I'm such a gypsy. I wish I had a treasure though.

Like I said, I moved here in May, and before that I had moved from Iceland to Finland, so I didn't have that much stuff. It's funny though, how it just accumulates even if you don't buy anything. Today I decided to throw my stuff and clothes in 5 piles:
  1. crap - yey for black trashbags
  2. flea market - stuff that I don't need, but doesn't belong into a trashbag
  3. storage - stuff that I don't want to throw away, but I most likely won't be needing in BCN (old diaries, some books, an expensive cutlery set I got as a graduation gift, etc.)
  4. storage/BCN - stuff that I will eventually bring with me to BCN, that will stay in the storage until then
  5. BCN - stuff that I will take with me next month, has to fit into 2 bags of 20kg.
And here's how it looks like right now:

This was when I only had 3 piles (and a trashbag): storage/BCN (next to the pillow/blanket mountain in the back), flea market (on the right), and omglolwtfhelp (rest of the stuff). I also have stuff that I'm gonna give to my mom and my brothers. It feels bad to get rid of some of the stuff, but let's be honest: if I have a beautiful pair of shorts that I bought from the States for $3, never wore them but still took them around Europe with me, I am not going to wear them in Spain. Someone will most likely find them at the flea market and jump for joy. And as soon as I'll feel comfortable wearing shorts again, I will buy a kick-ass pair of them.

The piles are calling for me. But before I go, I want to share a picture of my lovely little brother, who was named yesterday. I'm his godmother, and very proud. He's 2 months old, and in this picture he's getting acquainted with a fox I got for him.

Kettu Repolainen, me, and little Feetu. <3
I will miss him terribly... but he will come visit his crazy godmother, and together we will quest through the lands of Catalonia, or wherever life takes me.

Ah. More tea, some Michael Jackson, and those damn piles. Ta ta.
